Outwood is a small village in the Weald, with a population in the hundreds rather than the thousands. People know it for the windmill, the common and a few pubs, and it sits just east of the M23 with Redhill as its postal town. Not many people live in Outwood, and we do not claim to be its local body shop. We are close, though: about 2.8 miles from the workshop, and about 8 minutes by road.
How to get here from Outwood
The map takes you out of the village along Outwood Common and Outwood Lane, then Scott's Hill, Norman's Road and Chapel Road, before joining Redehall Road. These are country lanes, so the drive is slower than the distance suggests, and a horse, a cyclist or a delivery van can hold you up. Allow the 8 minutes and add a few if you are in a hurry.
What goes wrong on lanes like these
Outwood Common and the lanes around it are narrow, with soft verges and overhanging branches. Cars get brushed by branches, clipped by passing traffic or caught on a gatepost. The result is often a long, shallow scratch or a small dent in a door rather than a big smash.
