A footpath between hedges near Burstow in Surrey

Crawley Down is a village in West Sussex, about a mile from the Surrey border and a few miles east of Crawley. It has a church built in 1843, a school, a football ground, and the Worth Way, a path that follows an old railway line. From our workshop in Smallfield you can be there in about 8 minutes. The distance is 3.6 miles.

Lanes, hedges and the drive to work

Village roads have their own kind of wear. Narrow lanes with high hedges leave long scratches along the side of a car. Passing places on the way out of the village catch wing mirrors and door corners. Most of those marks are cosmetic, and plenty can be put right without a full respray. Our scratch repairs page explains what we can often polish or blend out and what needs paint.

If you commute from Crawley Down to Gatwick or Crawley, the school run and the supermarket car park add their own bumps. A scraped bumper corner is one of the most common things people bring us. We mend the plastic where it can be mended, and tell you if it cannot. Have a look at our bumper repair page for how that works.

How to get here from Crawley Down

The route is not the obvious main road. From the village, follow the lanes north, using Sandy Lane, Vicarage Road and Mill Lane, then Effingham Lane to meet the B2037. Turn right onto the B2037 and follow it through Copthorne and on to Smallfield, where it becomes Redehall Road. We are at Unit 6, 100 Redehall Road.

The B2028 is the other road you cross near the start. Sat nav will pick the lanes for you, but it is worth knowing they are narrow, so allow a little extra time if you are driving at school-run hours.

Do you collect from the village?

Sometimes, yes. We do collection and delivery in nearby areas, and Crawley Down is close enough that it is worth asking. It depends on the job and on the day, so ring and we will tell you. For a quick quote, you do not need to come at all: WhatsApp some photos and we will reply.

What should I photograph?

Take one wide shot to show where on the car the damage sits, and then a close-up from straight on and one from an angle. Include any cracked paint or plastic. Wheels are different: if the rim is the problem, photograph the whole wheel and the worst scuff, and have a look at our alloy wheel refurbishment page. Kerbed rims are very common on lanes with no pavement.

For anything where the paint colour matters, see car respray to understand how we match and blend it in the spray booth.

Drivers in nearby Copthorne, Felbridge and East Grinstead come to us in much the same way.
